What do you do?

With over 1500 stores in more than 25 countries selling their collections and a fast growing online presence, No Excess is a household fashion brand for men that want to wear modern, stylish and comfortable clothes suitable for any occasion. The company is very entrepreneurial and the dynamics are high, following not only the industry transitions (such as e-commerce) but also their own ambitions and dreams. Such as launching the new brand Qubz in 2020, opening an amazing flagship store in the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands and the launch of the NXS denim collection in 2022. To strengthen the No Excess finance team we are looking for a talented, energetic and pragmatic Business Controller. In this position you will be the right hand of and report into the FD and will join the finance team of 3 colleagues. You support them and will be their backup whenever necessary and work closely together making sure the financials are nice and tidy. You do the financial sanity check during the close, check the agent commissions and rebates yourself and make sure all client revenue is accounted for. Although the focus is always broad within an entrepreneurial (midmarket) organisation your core focus and added value will on driving and developing the performance of the business.

To do that it is important that you get to know the business through and through. It is a complex and interesting industry for a financial. No Excess manages the whole chain from design, purchasing, production, warehousing, sales up to fulfilment (delivery to store and/or consumer), both inhouse as well as through 3rd parties. They have different partnerships in their B2B channel (pre-order / order from stock) and their online channel (direct and partner platforms). And besides that they have 2 own stores, both flagship as well as outlet. A lot of different elements impacting the bottom line. And in a changing market in which not only internationalisation and e-commerce, but also sustainability developments, corona, fluctuating cost and changing international regulations could have an impact on the business. A candy store for a business minded financial who wants to make a true impact by giving the business actionable insights and recommendations.

First of all you will be doing that by providing them with structural key insights, recommendations and guidance. Now that It’s perfect (ERP) and Twinfield have been implemented, it is time to (re)build and expanding the periodic management reporting using PowerBI, utilizing all the data that is available. Reporting, analysing and advising on the sales performance per collection, client, agent, country & channel, (own) store performance, online performance for direct and partner channels, monitoring and analysing stock, return and sell through rate, variances versus budget and (re) forecasting. With a value-chain approach you will create insights into all aspects which impact the margin to support, advice and steer the business. You participate in the periodic business reviews, where you can clearly explain the variances and your take on them to the various stakeholders. More importantly you discuss what this means for future business decisions. To do this, getting into the details is crucial, while always keeping sight on the bigger picture.

Good to know

Next to the recurring cycle you will experience that a big part of your role will be supporting the business with adhoc analyses, business cases and projects.

What is the true cost of a return and how does that vary per country? What is our margin on sales through the different marketplaces? How does the e-commerce growth impact our bottom line? What is the impact of higher costs of material, production and transportation and do we need a new cost price structure? Do we need to re-evaluate the commission structure or transfer pricing policy? What is the impact of the changes in international customer VAT ruling? How do we implement this in our processes and what impact does it have on the P&L?

What marketing investments should we do for the collection launch or launch of a new product category? What is the average period from order, supply up to payment? If we continue to grow, do we buy or lease warehouse capacity or work with a 3rd party? Now that corona is behind us, how is the performance of the new label Qubz?

Just to name a few….

All these have to be supported by financial modelling, market research, scenario analysis and investment cases. You will really deep dive into all different kind of business & finance topics, find out what you don’t know yet, align who you need and use your social & analytical capacity to connect the dots.

Who are you?

We are looking for a proactive, analytical and ambitious financial who loves to work in a dynamic, creative and growing business. You have a strong finance background, an entrepreneurial mindset, a business minded approach and you drive continuous improvement. Besides that you also really don’t mind getting your hands dirty when necessary and tackling all topics coming your way. Even if it is something you never encountered before, you take ownership and follow through.

“We need somebody who thrives in an entrepreneurial setting and “family” culture, where everything you do matters and everybody has the same hunger to make a difference. You will be joining a team of passionate colleagues who all truly believe in the brands and who are doing everything to achieve their mission: “We want every man to feel comfortable at all times”. We believe in talent and potential. So if you have the ambition, are curious and a quick learner, you can grow into the role and develop yourself into a well-rounded finance business partner”.

  • Bachelor of Master degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Economics

  • 3-6 years of work experience as a (financial or business) controller

  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch & English, preferably experience with Twinfield & PowerBI

More about No Excess

The story

Founded in 1988, No Excess is a Dutch menswear brand, with a focus on style with comfort. Their sport inspired comfortable men's clothing won’t hold you back — allowing you to move freely and push yourself to new limits. Their clothes are created for maximum comfort and wearability, with no compromise on style. They’re big fans of the down-to-earth Dutch mentality and their designs reflect this: Whatever you're up to, make sure your clothes feel as good as they look.

Each season their design team creates unique prints and stunning colourways. They keep an eye on the big trends and translate these into unique No Excess style — comfortable, premium quality with outstanding detailing for a down-to-earth, timeless look. Casual, Sport and Chic, their three men's clothing collections, work beautifully alone or worn together. They call these their ‘winning team’, because together, they’re pretty much invincible.

In 2020 the second (and new) brand Qubz has been launched, which focusses on functional men’s fashion with a sporty look. “They are basic items with bright details.” The color blue is central to the brand and the Qubz brand story is therefore built around the theme of water. “The brand is optimistic, energetic and fresh,” says brand manager Mark Zwijsen. As a target group, the brand envisions the man with a sporty appearance that is optimistic and energetic, around the age category of 25 to 55 years.

NXS Denim

In 2022 No Excess launched a brand-new denim collection. After months of hard work and focus they managed to improve and perfected their fits and washings and started new partnerships with manufacturers for the best qualities. They designed 3 different fits: slim, regular and tapered with 4 different qualities to choose from. Besides that, they’ve created a completely new look and feel within the boundaries of their own visual identity.

The No Excess Man

The No Excess man is a dedicated sports enthusiast. Sports is leading throughout every communication. Why sports? Sport is for everyone and for every moment. It’s exciting, energetic and entertaining. Sports is a strong connector for friends, families and colleagues. And it’s even better when mixed with traveling. Discovering new places and watching sports with your favourite people: that’s the spice of life. With No Excess you will always come prepared: comfortable clothes that won’t hold you back.

The No Excess Man is reached through presence in more than 1500 stores in over 25 countries and online through e-commerce by their own B2C channel and through partner platforms such as Wehkamp, and Zalando. Besides that they have their own flagship store in the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands which opened in 2021 and an outlet store in Roosendaal.

The office

At the head office they focus on Styling, Production, Marketing, E-Commerce, Logistics, Finance and Sales. Each team has its own charms, dynamics and varies from experienced executives to young talents. In 2016 they moved to a new, inspiring office. There’s more space for distribution, more work space and a 300 square metres showroom. It’s surrounded by water and a large garden, in which they enjoy many Friday drinks together. It’s a perfect place to operate from and to welcome their guests from all over Europe.
