What do you do?

2021 was an interesting year for Total Specific Solutions (TSS) on many levels. The acquisition of Topicus, completion of together with the spin-off from Constellation (while remaining the European operating group of CSI) and becoming a publicly listed company by itself on the Canadian TSX Venture Exchange. Fortunately TSS was used to change and stellar growth; with over 80 (international) acquisitions in over 3 years they are building a very impressive portfolio of Vertical Market Software companies. The 13 acquisitions that they have already done in 2022 show that there is no slowing them down, they will continue their ambitious international growth strategy. Because of internal promotion, they are now looking for a Corporate Controller for TSS Public to join the ride. This is a senior position with a high level of international exposure and stakeholder management in which you will drive the future change agility of the business.

You report directly to the group CFO Public, work closely with the CEO and Corporate Controllers within, TSS Blue & Topicus Operating Group; sharing best practices and tackling corporate strategic or optimalisation projects together. The portfolio of the business unit Public consists of over 70 businesses in 7 countries. In all countries and businesses there are local finance teams managed by one or more Managers Finance & Control, depending on the size. As the Corporate Controller you are responsible for coordinating them in the consolidation and reporting process. You set out the timelines & deliverables they should report into OneStream (day 5) and while the junior Portfolio Controller manages the more operational recurring tasks, supporting the businesses with issues during the close and adjustments in OneStream, you take on the more complex adhoc issues arising. You do the financial sanity check in close contact with the local country finance management and do a thorough analysis on P&L/BS movements and actuals/forecast variances. Together with the junior Portfolio Controller you manage the monthly management reporting for the CEO & CFO of TSS Public, which feeds directly into the reporting, which you also present during the CFO meeting with all BU CFO’s and Corporate Controllers. On a quarterly basis you manage the disclosures and deliverables for the reporting to CSI and annually you review the statutory report and corporate tax, in close collaboration with the external Tax consultants.

For TSS Public you are in the lead ensuring compliance and TSS corporate governance within the Portfolio. On a day to day basis this includes a lot of different topics for which you will set the parameters. That is why, next to the above financial cycle, a large part of your position will be more adhoc, working on projects, issues arising within the portfolio or strategic (re)positioning. For example taking the lead when there are changes in IFRS to investigate the implications for the countries and support them on the implementation. Or guide and support local finance management after an acquisition on the TSS Accounting Manual, CoA, timeline and reporting deliverables. The Managers Finance & Control will manage the more operational support to the new companies, but you make sure they know what to do, keep the timeline and give guidance on more complex topics for example within local Gaap/IFRS bridges, interpretations or position papers. You are also in the lead for the Purchase Price Allocation process for acquisitions in your portfolio, which occurs more than once a month.

Furthermore you will continuously be involved in optimalisation projects as the business develops. These could be optimalisations within OneStream, tax structures or (re)evaluating and optimising the management reporting. But also more strategic projects like re-assessing the legal and managerial structure and perform changes based on the current (and future) size of levels of decentralisation. Within TSS, change is the only constant. Really. So be ready to tackle everything that comes your way. We don’t expect you to know everything, as long is you take ownership, know how/where to find out what should be done, who to involve, follow through and finish what you’ve started.

Being the Corporate Controller, you not only have a coordinating role towards the country finance teams and act as a Center of Excellence for (complex) accounting & reporting topics. We also expect you to be a thought leader; stimulating the professional development and collaboration within the finance community of Public by giving trainings, coaching and presentations on finance topics, facilitate & maximize finance community collaborations and sharing best practices.

  • Master degree in the field of Accounting, Finance, Economics, supplemented with a Post-Master qualification (RA or RC)
  • 5-8 years relevant working experience in Audit and/or Controlling
  • Experience with IFRS, consolidation and reporting processes
  • Affinity and experience with consolidation/reporting tooling, preferably OneStream
  • Experience with process improvement projects, integrations and/or implementations is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch & English. Good interpersonal skills and ability to quickly form working relationships and gain credibility. A clear, to-the-point communicator with a practical, no-nonsense mentality
  • Organizational aware, able to maintain a broad formal and informal network
