What do you do?

We are looking for an energetic, strong Financial Controller who wants join Rituals in their exciting, challenging journey to become - and remain - the number one global luxury brand in cosmetics. Because of the extremely high, international growth of Rituals over the last few years and omnichannel business model, the core focus within is on automation, process improvements and professionalisation. Setting up strong, scalable processes to enable and support the ambitious growth strategy of the upcoming years.

As the Financial Controller you will focus on the New Markets entities; initially Poland, Italy & Asia which will be expanded over time. You will lead the financial close for the your countries, coordinating & reviewing the work off the accounting assistants who execute most of the journal entries, while taking ownership of the more complex accounting topics yourself. Such as reviewing of memo postings, control of the Balance Sheet (checks, accruals, provisions, reconciliations) and P&L. You are in close contact with Country Management while doing the analytical review of the P&L and Balance sheet, investigate variances and validating the numbers. It is your responsibility to deep dive into every variance and adhoc issue, because your input is being used in the monthly and quarterly reporting and business reviews with the Country Director, and you have to be able to explain and argument them during those meetings which you attend together with Business Control. Furthermore, you will coordinate the preparation of (local) statutory statements, the tax compliance and payroll accounting together with local advisors in the countries.

Because of your focus on New Markets a big part of your position is to set up, optimize and automate accounting & reporting processes in the countries, a (country specific) fiscal framework and setting up strong internal controls. This means travelling to the countries, aligning with local advisors , tax authorities and Internal Control to (re) define how the processes should be set up in a way that is solid & scalable. From there you are in the lead to implement these, and also train your local colleagues on changes in process and/or tooling.

  • Master degree in Accounting or Finance, preferably supplemented with RA, CA or ACCA
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in Audit within a Big4 audit firm or as an financial controller within a high growth international organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; a second language like Polish/Italian/Chinese is a plus.
  • Expert current knowledge of (local) GAAP and/or IFRS
  • Proven ability of working in a complex, demanding organisation, with tight deadlines, and having international exposure
  • You are a strong communicator, able to listen to, work with and challenge different internal and external stakeholders. You have the ability to influence at all levels, build bridges and valuable relationships
  • Grounded, approachable personality, critical yet constructive and positive approach

Rituals is a global brand, established in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2000. Today, Rituals has more than 730 stores, more than 2150 shop-in-shops and 4 City Spas in 29 countries worldwide. They have seen rapid expansion in duty free, airline, cruise liners & ferries, as well as hotels. While off course the travel related channels do experience impact from Covid-19, Rituals is already seeing signs of recovery. E-commerce has doubled in size since the start of the lockdown - even growing as much as fourfold during the lockdown itself. Online is already good for 20 % of the group's total turnover. Looking forward, Rituals has the ambition to grow to 1040 stores. The main expansion area is China, but Rituals sees European opportunities as well: the store network in France and Germany can still be doubled, according to CEO Raymond Cloosterman, while he also wants to expand to Italy, Poland and Russia.

In October 2020, Rituals has opened a first flagship store “House of Rituals” In Amsterdam that adds new services and products in a unique world of experience. If the concept is successful, branches in more capitals will follow.

Rituals describes the new flagship store as "A sanctuary where your body relaxes, your mind calms down and your soul finds satisfaction”. The four-storey, 1,500-square-metre experience store offers a whole host of new services and far more products than an average Rituals store, as many as 600 in total. Shoppers can personalise gifts, there is a luxury perfume bar, exclusive collections of scented sticks, scented candles and luxury textiles for bed and bath... The retailer wants to test which new products appeal to the public. A wellness centre will open on the top two floors of the building next year. The store also houses Asian-inspired restaurant Rouhi, which aims to stimulate the senses with surprising flavours, textures and fragrances. However, due to corona measures, that restaurant currently has to remain closed: consumers can order a take-away box to pick up.
