Financial Controller - Pieter Pot - high impact, small footprint start-up
What do you do?
Groceries with plastic free packaging – almost sounds too good to be true, right? Pieter Pot makes it happen! This high impact, small footprint start-up developed a fully circular way of online grocery shopping. They just raised €9M in a Series A funding to scale up zero-waste groceries. We are looking for an energetic, output oriented Financial Controller who is ready to join Pieter Pot in their path of rapid growth. In this position you will report to the CFO and work closely together with the Business Controller and Finance Support. Together, you are the financial backbone, facilitating future (cross-border) growth.
In this newly created position, you take the lead in implementing the financial control framework from A to Z. You start by determining the ‘as-is’ situation by assessing the current processes and from there on, you map the ‘to-be’ situation. During this process, you implement an efficient periodic closing process, which you will manage yourself. You review the (complex) accounting topics, tax matters and the financial reporting. Other than that, you will be in control of the Balance Sheet (checks, accruals, provisions and reconciliations) and P&L. Besides building a financial control framework that gives clear insights in the actuals, it is also crucial to translate business initiatives into financial (P&L) impact. You will be in charge of maintaining an up to date cashflow model, that also will be used in scenario analyses. What is the impact on the cashflow when changing the deposit amount for glass jars. This is just one example of the many topics that go along with the expansion plans of Pieter Pot and your financial analyses are key as input for strategic decision making. You will also play an important role in inventory control, by supporting the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) team with analyses and inventory related queries.
Driving continuous improvement is essential to take finance to the next level, therefore you need to critically review the workflows and proactively make suggestions for automation.

Who are you?
We are looking a pragmatic and energetic Financial Controller. A financial who can not only comprehend the core financial processes, but also has a strong business acumen. Being proactive is a must, there is a lot to do in this phase and you have to be able to prioritize and develop your own action plan. At the same time you have to be flexible to address pressing issues which might occur due to the dynamic and changing phase in which Pieter Pot resides.

Bachelor or Master degree in Economics or Accountancy
Appr. 3-5 years of experience in Audit and/or as a Financial Accountant, Financial Analyst or Controller
Strong Excel skills, analytical and data driven
Excellent communication skills in English, Dutch and/or German is a plus
Natural communicator; you explain complex ideas or topics with ease
Good insight in financial accounting and reporting processes combined with business sense
Ability to thrive in the dynamics of a start up and go with the flow
Ability to build bridges and challenge the status quo

More about Pieter Pot
Pieter Pot – the start up on a mission to reduce plastic consumption, providing zero waste shopping online, with maximum sustainability at maximum convenience. They offer a next-day grocery delivery service, where the groceries arrive in fully reusable mason jars. Customers can order groceries such as olive oil, cookies and peanut butter. Because the groceries are delivered in mason jars, it makes small packing material obsolete. With its innovative process, they collect empties and manages the cleaning and refilling of its packaging. In doing so, Pieter Pot allows consumers to reduce their plastic consumption without having to change the way they buy.
Since launching in 2019, more than 700,000 Pieter Pot jars have been introduced into circulation, helping to reduce the need for more than 1.5 million single-use plastic packages to date. In 2022, they have a target to contribute to eliminating one million packages per month.
Pieter Pot has been blitz-scaling since its inception, growing almost 10x year on year. They have more than 25.000 customers in the Netherland and have a waiting list for new customers wanting to use Pieter Pot. With the new funds raised, the company wants to grow further within the Netherlands and Belgium. The Series A funding for Pieter Pot, led by EFT Ventures, with additional support from existing investors, SHIFT Invest, The Future Food Fund and IQCapital (InnovationQuarter), will enable them to realize their expansion plans.
