Global Financial Controller - Newly created position and right hand of Global Director Finance & Control
What do you do?
In 2018 all Recruit’s staffing businesses around the world were united under the umbrella brand RGF Staffing. They represent a global network of approximately 20,000 colleagues with about $13 billion in annual revenue. An extremely successful company with a continuous and ambitious growth strategy, both through organic growth as well as acquisitions.
Recruit’s global HQ is in Japan, but the global HQ for the Staffing Business has been established in the Netherlands, where the lean and specialized global finance team is located. Currently they are end responsible for the RGF Staffing financial results and are managing the European consolidation, while the global consolidation is still being done in Japan. Upcoming year they are not only moving the global consolidation from Japan to the Netherlands, but are also in the process of implementing new consolidation software. Because of these large transitions they have created a new position as a Group Financial Controller. In this position you report to and are the right hand of the Global Director Finance & Control Stephaen Vereecken and be a peer to the two senior Financial Controllers in the team. The structure is complex yet challenging: you will liaise with various stakeholders on all levels of the organisation; the Recruit HQ in Japan, RGF Staffing corporate level and with local management & finance teams globally.
Because of the transition your role will develop over time. For the first six months you will deep dive into the business structure and (European) consolidation. Getting to know the current set-up, mappings and processes. Understanding the bridges, legal and IC structures and technical accounting topics that apply on the business. Reviewing the current CoA, accounting manuals and timelines both on European and global level. In short, define the “as-is” situation. Simultaneously you will already participate in the new consolidation software project, testing, uploading historical data and reviewing. After the go-live, you will play an important role training local finance teams and the SSC’s on how to use the new tool and subsequent process changes that come with it.
Getting the global consolidation to the HQ in NL requires huge changes in the consolidation and reporting processes. As well as the goal to go from a monthly to a quarterly closing process. First of all the group finance team has to take the lead in setting up the new accounting manuals, CoA, timelines and reporting calendar. They have to define the global intercompany complexity, simplify where possible and ensure this is embedded in the new consolidation software. Furthermore the new reporting process to RGF Staffing management and Recruit global HQ has to be set-up. Together with the Global Director F&C you will be actively involved in these projects both already in your first months as well as afterwards, when the countries have to be transitioned. That is the time to broaden the scope to the Japanese, US and Australian entities onboarding them in the new global consolidation and reporting structure. To do this, you will visit the countries, building up strong relations with local finance management & teams and training them on the new tooling, timelines & processes. You advise them on mapping issues or (local Gaap/IFRS) bridges and follow up on any other adhoc issues that will arise during the transition.
After the implementation of the new consolidation software, transitioning towards a quarterly close and onboarding all countries, the actual consolidation and reporting process will be largely automated. It is your role then to review and analyse the consolidates figures, identifying and investigating variances and follow-up on them when necessary. Either doing it yourself, involving internal stakeholders on certain topics or informing management. You will work closely with the countries, either by visiting them or remote. Without having to know all the small details, you will do a balance sheet analysis challenging the local teams on certain key topics or variances to ensure the group is in control, understands and is able to act on the figures. Furthermore you will support the countries on accounting technical topics, give guidance and train them on the appropriate treatment of and changes in accounting standards (IFRS).
Good to know
Setting up “best-in-class” group finance processes and using the potential the new consolidation software has to offer, you will be able to focus more on value-adding analyses and projects. For example giving (structural) insight in the developments in receivables aging, cashflow developments or trends is labour costs. Analysing profitability of companies and/or business lines or supporting acquisitions (DD/PPA) and onboarding.
Who are you?
We are looking for a strong financial with a strategic & agile mindset. You have a good technical background, strong communication skills and a business minded approach. You are able to build strong relationships and can liaise with, challenge and motivate internal and external stakeholders.
“Although RGF Staffing has the size and footprint of a “corporate”, they still have the entrepreneurial culture, ”flat” group hierarchy and flexibility to quickly react to (business) opportunities. And within this transitional phase there is a lot of room to make an impact, set up best-in-class processes, drive change while also investing in your own development. Because we are not looking for somebody who has seen and done it all, but find it more important that you bring an eagerness to learn, have the intellectual capacity to understand and form a strategic (yet simple) view on complex structures and are able to built strong relationships within all different levels of the organisation. You will get exposure on a very broad scale of finance topics and will be well positioned for growth withing RGF Staffing, on group or country level.”
