Group Business Controller - BAM - Strategic Position
What do you do?
We are looking for an ambitious and talented Group Business Controller to join the BAM Group Finance team. In this position you report to the Head of Group Business Control and work closely with your direct colleagues within Group Business Control (6) and Group Reporting & Consolidation(6). The team acts as trusted advisor to the Executive Board and Group Functional Leaders, supporting them with a broad spectrum of finance and business insights on strategic, group level decisions and subsequent operating model. Now is a very interesting phase to join, since BAM has announced the new strategy plan. Which means a lot for the underlying (finance) processes and structures which have to be redefined.
Within the Group Business Control team everybody has their own core (business) focus, but they support each other when necessary, rotate over time to develop more broadly and work on strategic projects together. Initially your core focus will be on managing, analysing and advising on Group Functions Costs. You coordinate the annual budgeting plan, support and challenge the Group Function Leaders on their plans, argumentation and give them advice to make the right decisions. You will be involved in the periodic reviews and (re)forecasting discussing variances, underlying causes, cost saving opportunities, FTE development, OPEX variances, CAPEX projects and (new) investments that they have in mind. You work out the underlying business cases, review investments proposals by the Opco’s and make actionable recommendations. Due to the new strategy you will initially be working on business cases to work out different company cost scenario’s, models and allocation, which then have to be implemented and embedded in the organisation.
Good to know
Next to the group cost & strategic (re)design of the cost processes, which initially will be the largest part of your role but will decrease over time, you will also be contributing to one of the other topics that the team is responsible for. Which topic is not “set in stone yet” and will depend on your personal interest and background. You might want to focus on the BAM digitalisation transition (dashboarding / PowerBI), make an impact by setting up in depth BAM group-level project portfolio performance reporting & analytics or contributing to the Consolidated Operating Plan (consolidated P&C cycle).
Who are you?
You bring the analytical capacity and eagerness to really understand and grasp the key drivers and complexity of the business in order to add value. You know how to ask the right questions to get to the underlying drivers or arguments, understand the (chain) impact of variances and can drive & quickly adapt to change.
“Being part of the Group Business Control team, you will experience that the level is high and the dynamics are very strong. The adhoc nature requires strong prioritizing and stakeholder management. Therefore we are looking for somebody with “consulting capabilities”; a strong storyteller, able to relate to and understand business perspective, can built strong relations and delivers what they promise. Supplemented with a pragmatic, accessible attitude and a positive approach.”
- Master degree in Finance, (Business) Economics or Accountancy, preferably supplemented with a post-Master qualification
- Min. 5-8 years of experience as a business/cost controller, within Accountancy or Transaction Services; preferably experience with(in) an international, project oriented organisation
- (Strong) knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and preferably SAP BPC, dashboarding & PowerBI
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch (fluent) & English
- Inquisitive; you dare to ask difficult questions and will continue asking questions where others stop;
- A robust, open discussion partner at all levels;
- Organizational aware, able to maintain a broad formal and informal network;
- Strongly driven for results and have the ability to handle ambiguity and cross-functional team dynamics;
- Analytical and have a solution-oriented mind-set and a hands-on approach;
- Above all, a great colleague, warm personality, no ego issues, honest, committed, result focused, a team player who wants to achieve the best results together.
