Project Controller Airborne BU Aerospace - fast growing & innovative technology business
What do you do?
Due to the impressive and continuous growth of appr. 50% a year, we are looking for an ambitious and energetic project controller to join the Airborne Finance team. In this newly created position you report to the Business Unit Controller Aerospace and together with her act as the financial co-pilot for the Project Managers and BU management. The BU Aerospace is a fast growing BU servicing multiple international key clients (commercial projects) and also work on developing innovative new technologies supported by grants (R&D subsidy projects) or as a dual collaboration with clients (investment projects). Some of which have prominent international exposure due to their ground breaking technology.
To truly get to know the business you will start by taking over the weekly monitoring team meeting for all projects. In these meetings the project status is discussed, where you focus on actuals vs. forecast analysis. Deep diving into variances such as delays in design or production, flux in timesheets (hours), (unplanned) costs or investments etc. which could affect the milestones (revenue), costs or cashflow. You will also review the bookings/invoicing on your projects done by accounting to make sure that all cost is accounted for and they reflect the correct project status. Besides the weekly meetings you will manage the monthly and yearly close & reporting together with the Business Unit Controller. During this process you will be in close contact with the project managers to determine and analyse the project status and discuss variances so you can determine the impact on the (rolling) forecast for the projects. But also to comment on the status in the BU reporting pack and impact on the BU (rolling) forecast. At first the Business Unit Controller will stay in de lead for the monthly business review with the CFO, Managing Director Aerospace and project managers, but as you will get to know the business you can grow into the role and gain exposure. Because of a big new contract and the upcoming ERP implementation, it is to be expected that you will soon be taking over more responsibilities from the Business Unit Controller, for example managing multiple projects end-to-end incl. the business reviews.
Good to know....
Because of the growth and focus on process optimalisation we expect you to initiate / participate in projects such as the implementation of the new ERP system Microsoft Dynamics and/or subsequent reporting design in and implementation of Power BI. Besides that you could be involved in financial modelling supporting business and/or (capex) investment cases and will experience a lot of adhoc requests & analyses coming from the business.
Who are you?
You are an ambitious, eager and business minded financial. You have a good technical finance background, strong communication skills and a business minded approach. You are able to build strong relationships and can liaise with, support and challenge internal and external stakeholders.
“To be successful in this position you really need to have a strong, hands-on personality. You want to work very close to the business, are not afraid to challenge existing assumptions or objections & have a strong operational and strategic curiosity. You want to know everything going on within your projects, even though your core responsibility will be managing the financial side. In this position you will get to know the business within Airborne through and through, which will contribute to your career perspective. Since we are growing so fast, we can accommodate multiple career paths for an ambitious, talented financial, and will be there to coach and mentor you on the way.”
- Bachelor or Master degree in Finance, Economics or Accountancy
- 2- 5 years of experience as a financial, project or cost controller; preferably within an (international) matrix organisation
- (Strong) knowledge of Excel, experience with Accountview or Microsoft Dynamics would be a plus and excellent communication skills in English
- Solid background and knowledge of accounting/financial control with the ambition to broaden your scope
- Able to work in stressful situations, excellent stakeholder management, planning and organizational skills
- Strong personality who is analytical, team focused, pragmatic, feels accountable, has a helicopter view and a positive/critical mindset
